Web Searching

Tips

- .edu and .org, sites may be more reliable than .com sites

- using many key words narrows the focus - returning fewer and more relevant results

CLASS NOTES - Day One

FireFox Stuff

    Macs

Apple T = gives you a new tab

Apple N = gives you a new window

Wiki vs. Webpages

Wiki - collaborative web page many people can edit and update
webpages - one person designs and updates

PORTAPORTALS

We created our own PortaPortal pages and spent some time messing around with them,

        - choosing categories

        - adding links

        - sharing good websites

Molly has a good music website on her page.

(TIP: use the Q icon to find a quick way to add links to categories)

DEL.ICIO.US - another type of bookmarking, social bookmarking

2 good things about this bookmarking place (site?)

        - adding websites is easier if you add the useful deli icons to your browser

        - you can send links to other people's Delicious accounts

FLASH DRIVES   (Not a ZipDrive!)

    AKA:    thumb drives

                jump drives

                memory stick

                key chain

BACK STUFF UP!

CD's are good things to use for back-ups, especially photos.

School files can be backed-up on school servers.

Apple Classrooms of Tomorrow Article

Reading and discussion of the late 1980's study on the impact of technology in the classroom.

Stages in Teacher Progress in using technology in the classroom:

       - entry

       - adoption

       - adaptation

       - appropriation

       - invention

Jane has a chart we made in class.  Maybe she can add this to these notes?
